In the early 1980s, P. C. Roger Hall was Grayshott Village’s resident policeman. Not only did he observe and occasionally regulate Grayshott people going about their every day lives, he had a vision. He wanted these good folk to publish a regular, written, illustrated record of their lives and their interests. From this vision emerged the ‘Grayshott Village Magazine’ first issued in August 1983 for 10 new pence. In the spirit of the times inflation raised the cost of the magazine to 12 pence by August 1984 when sadly the publication was withdrawn from the newsagents shelves. Rumour has it that P. C. Hall was often willing to waive a parking ticket if a Grayshott resident was prepared to provide an article for the magazine by next week.
The magazine was edited and compiled by Anne Scott and Ros Balfour. The line drawings on the covers were by Clare Hatcher.
Inside the covers of this magazine are gems of articles. Jos Fasham, who still lives in the village, wrote the following article showing how gentle life in Grayshott was in 1984.
The Archive has plans to scan all the issues of the magazine in due course.
