The Moorlands Hotel, Portsmouth Road, Hindhead. Of topical interest with the recent demolition of these once grand premisses. The hotel was built about 1895 by John Grover, the London builder who later came to reside permanently at Hindhead and is buried in St.Lukes churchyard. Conan Doyle resided here whilst waiting for and overseeing the completion of 'Undershaw' from January to October 1897. This view from the main entrance on the Portsmouth Road side dates from about 1921 when tourism was beginning to return after the Great War.
